A leading Sheffield sports centre is making a splash of its newly refurbished leisure pool by offering its customers a whole weekend of free swimming.
Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is celebrating the reopening of Surf City, The Leisure Pool at the centre by opening its doors to the facility on a first come first served basis on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March.
Swimmers will be able to access the leisure pool for free sessions throughout the weekend.
To promote the offer staff from the Sheffield International Venues-managed facility will operate a free surfboard simulator at Meadowhall shopping centre on Saturday 8 March.
Jo Betts, marketing and promotions manager at Ponds Forge, said:
“The reopening of the Leisure Pool is a significant milestone in our refurbishment programme and we want to celebrate by seeing as many swimmers as possible here on the weekend to sample the renovated pool for free.
“We are promoting the free weekend of swimming with a fun day of surfing on a surfboard simulator at Meadowhall the weekend before.
People will be able to take a break from shopping to have a quick surf and get into the mood for visiting Surf City, The Leisure Pool at Ponds Forge the week after! “
The redecoration of the pool and new changing rooms show our ongoing commitment to improving our facilities for customers.”
The Leisure Pool has been redecorated, there are some additions to the toddler pool area and the much-loved fun elements of the pool, such as the two 90m water flumes, the lazy river and the wave machine have all been maintained.
The changing village, closed since November 2007 along with the leisure pool, has been refurbished and split into male, female and family changing areas with new showers.
The Surfboard simulator will be located outside House Of Fraser in Meadowhall on Saturday 8 March and the weekend of free swimming takes place the following weekend (March 15 & 16) from 10.30am - 5.15pm.
The opening of the leisure pool is the second major milestone in the refurbishment of Ponds Forge, with the studios set to open this weekend (March 8) and the gym scheduled for completion in June this year.
