Sheffield is on cue to enhance its growing reputation as a major city of sport with two high profile televised events in quick succession.
The prestigious engage International Open Bowls Tournament is set to take centre stage at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre following on from the successful Pot Black snooker tournament at Sheffield City Hall.
Both facilities are managed by Sheffield International Venues (SIV) and Ponds Forge will also be hosting a pro-celebrity bowls event in aid of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity in the run up to the
engage International Open.
Snooker star Ken Doherty has taken time out to praise the city.
The former World Champion said: “Sheffield is a fantastic city that has become synonymous with snooker sport. It’s a great place to come to and playing in the city is certainly special.
“It’s good that so many different sportsmen stars will be able to experience the unique Sheffield atmosphere in the forthcoming pro-celebrity event.”
The line-up for the charity pro-celebrity event on November 7 will be revealed shortly. The event will be open to guests watching that day’s play of the engage International Open.
The engage International Open, which will be televised on the BBC, will take place at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre from November 4 to 11.
The competition has been brought to Sheffield by Sheffield City Council’s Major Sports Events Unit and is the latest in a string of high-profile events this year.
