Lord Mayor bowled over by international event
Sheffield’s Lord Mayor is backing an international sporting tournament that is returning to the city.
Councillor Arthur Dunworth is supporting the engage International Open Bowls Tournament - back in Sheffield for the seventh time.
The tournament, which will feature the world’s top bowls players, is being held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre from November 4 to 11.
The Lord Mayor said: “We’re lucky to have such fantastic facilities in Sheffield both for public use on a daily basis and for hosting such high profile events. The world’s best players will be in the city and as a bowls fan I cannot wait for the action to start.”
The engage International Open has been brought to Sheffield by Sheffield City Council’s Major Sports Events Unit and is the latest in a string of high-profile events this year.
Bowls is a sport that appeals to people of all ages from young children through to grandparents, an ethos reflected by title sponsor engage – a family focused financial services provider.
