A major redevelopment programme at one of South Yorkshire’s leading swimming and leisure facilities is taking another step forward next month (November).

 

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is undergoing a £3million transformation that will see the creation of a bigger, cutting edge gym, two brand new spacious exercise studios, and an improved spa area and treatment rooms.

 

Work at the Sheffield International Venues (SIV) managed facility is already underway and with a redecoration programme of the leisure pool due to start shortly, the refurbishment is progressing well.

 

Changes for the leisure pool facility include the creation of new male and female changing rooms, the water slides updated to create a new look and the pool will be drained and cleaned  with some retiling. The pool’s controls will also be relocated to further improve the high safety standards.

 

The leisure pool at the highly acclaimed venue will close on November 26 for work to begin. It is expected to re-open before the 2008 Easter holidays.

 

The international 50 metre swimming pool will remain open for the duration of the work.

 

General manager Helen Broadbent said: “The work to the leisure pool will ensure that the facility is of the highest possible quality for all visitors to enjoy.

 

“We have scheduled the work to take place during the quietest period for the leisure pool to ensure minimum disruption for centre users.

Leisure swimming facilities will be available at other SIV Venues including the triple award winning Hillsborough Leisure Centre, where an interactive pirate ship has recently been installed, and Concord Sports Centre.
